There are two ways you can create a new report template:

1. Clone an existing report template.

2. Convert a report into a report template.

Clone an existing report template

It is possible to clone an existing report template belonging to you, your company, your group or Genovo. This will make an exact copy of the original report template which you can then edit.

To clone a report template simply click the clone icon and an exact copy of the report template will be created and saved under the ‘Your templates’ tab with ‘Copy of…’ appended to the front of the original report template name.

Having created a copy of the template, you can then edit:

  • its name and any associated tags by clicking on the edit icon; and
  • edit the content of the report template by clicking on the template name.

Convert a report into a report template

Having created a report for a client within the Report Builder, you can quickly and easily convert that report into a report template to use as the starting point for creating reports in the future by clicking the Convert to template button at the bottom of the page.

You will be prompted to give the template a name and add some tags should you wish to.

Tags are optional searchable keywords that can be used to help highlight to you (and your users) that a particular template contains certain key content or concepts. Examples of such tags could be:

  • The type of advice being provided;
  • The provider being recommended;
  • The type of products or investment strategy being recommended; or
  • Other key content included within the report. For example, ex-post charges or cashflow modelling etc

You can add whatever tags, and as many tags as you want, but for your own benefit we would encourage you to try to be consistent with your use of tags, otherwise it will be more difficult for you (and your users) to use the search function effectively. If you are adding multiple tags, the tags should be comma delimited.

Any tags you add to a report template will also be appended to the template name shown in the Report Template drop down field of the Report Details page when you elect to create a report from an existing template.

On clicking Save you'll be directed to your Report Template Library where you'll see the report template has now been added as a new template under the ‘Your templates’ tab.

It's worth remembering that the newly created template will be an exact copy of the report you converted. Although all links to the original client will be severed, there is still likely to be certain content in some of the sections that is specific to the client you wrote the original report for. Therefore, we’d suggest that you quickly review the content of the sections and anonymise it, before using or sharing the template.
